What we verify

• Board certification, checked against the certifying body — for this procedure, ordinarily the American Board of Plastic Surgery or its equivalent outside the US.
• Current licence and standing with the state or provincial medical board.
• That the practice performs explant with capsulectomy regularly, rather than occasionally.
• That the surgical facility is accredited or licensed for the anaesthesia used.

We do not assess surgical skill and we do not rank surgeons. A listing means the checks above passed on the date shown. It is not an endorsement, and our disclaimer says so plainly to patients.

What a listing costs

Nothing. Basic listings are free and always will be. If we introduce enhanced listings later they will be labelled as paid on the page, and paying will never change position, ordering, or anything we publish editorially. Our editorial policy commits us to that.

What we ask you to send

Email directory@explanthealth.com with the following. There is no form to fill in and no account to create.

1. Surgeon name and credentials as you want them displayed
2. Practice name, city and website
3. Certifying board and certification number, or a verification link
4. State or provincial licence number
5. Approximate number of explant procedures performed in the last twelve months
6. Name of the surgical facility and its accreditation
7. Whether you perform total capsulectomy, and your approach to en bloc

That last question is not a test with a right answer. We publish the 2024 BSCC consensus position on en bloc, which contradicts a lot of what patients arrive believing, and it is useful for them to know how a given surgeon approaches it.

These are live now. If you practise elsewhere, write anyway — we add cities where there is a verified surgeon to list.

Corrections and removal

If a listing is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. If you want it removed, say so and we remove it — no negotiation and no retention offer. Write to directory@explanthealth.com.
