Explant surgeons in Florida
What the Floridamarket looks like, how to verify a surgeon’s licence here, what the state requires of surgical facilities, and the cities we cover.
The Florida market
Florida has an unusually large cosmetic surgery sector and a correspondingly wide quality range. Miami in particular carries a substantial medical tourism trade, which brings both highly experienced surgeons and high-volume operations where aftercare is thin. The distinction is not visible from a website.

Verifying a surgeon in Florida
Two separate checks, both public, both quick. Do them before the consultation rather than after.
- Licence and standing. Check with the Florida Board of Medicine, including any disciplinary history.
- Certification. In the United States the relevant body for this surgery is the American Board of Plastic Surgery. A state licence means someone may practise medicine. It does not mean they are a certified plastic surgeon, and plenty of physicians performing cosmetic procedures hold the first without the second.
Florida publishes licence status and disciplinary actions in a searchable public database, so checking a surgeon here takes minutes. The state also distinguishes between office surgery registration levels — if your procedure involves general anaesthetic, confirm the facility is registered for it.
Cost and insurance
Coverage depends on why the implants are coming out. Removal for a documented medical reason such as rupture, severe capsular contracture or implant-associated cancer is more often covered than removal for systemic symptoms alone. Our cost page explains what makes up a quote and why the published averages understate it.
What to ask
- How many explant procedures with capsulectomy did you perform in the last year?
- Will you remove the entire capsule, and what will you do if it is adherent to my ribs or lung?
- Will the capsule be sent for pathology?
- What is your complication rate, and how do you track it?
- Which accredited facility would I be operated in?
The full question list and the warning signs worth walking away from are on our provider guidance page. On technique specifically, the en bloc page explains why the answer you want is about judgement rather than a promise, and capsulectomy versus capsulotomy covers the distinction most often blurred in consultation.
We publish a surgeon only after checking certification against the American Board of Plastic Surgery and confirming the entry with the practice. We will not fill this by copying practice websites.
